Take the weather with you.

For most people, there's work and then there's travel . Last year, I definitely thought this was the case. Little did I know that when I joined DG global at the start of 2011, these two little words would end up merging together so often.

Being a Multimedia designer, you would expect that sitting in an office most of the day working at a computer was the norm, but in the events industry that is far from reality! Somehow, every week or two, I find myself working in a different place, armed with nothing but a laptop, camera and a few other bits of technology with model numbers that would confuse even the most number-savvy accountant. Dark backstage wings, tranquil meeting rooms equipped with fish tanks and funky interiors, hotel rooms in the early hours of the morning, bean bags, aeroplanes these are just some of the places where I have setup my travelling studio.

Travelling on the job can be great... BUT there is one thing that frustrates me like nothing else, and that is the ever-changing weather! Jumping on a plane from Melbourne to go 7 hours to Singapore, or 1 hour to Sydney, or 4 hours to Perth, one might experience monsoonal rain, scorching temps, or my pet hate freezing early mornings. My Weatherzone app on the iPhone is always a real help when working out what to pack. If only I could somehow stay in-sync with the good weather, instead of always being out of town when it hits Melbourne!

Living out of a suitcase (or two, plus a pelican case or two, suit bag, the list goes on...) becomes almost a given and its really nice to occasionally re-group at home! In fact, in the last 90 days, I have been away from home for about 60 of those.

At the airport: Where are you off to today sir?... and my response: Uhh, can you please take a look at my frequent flyer account and let me know?? At least I can always rely on my iPhone to tell me where I am and what time zone I'm in! In fact I am not even in Melbourne as I write this but I can say, the weather is fine.
