The sound of music!

No, its not the Julie Andrews classic where the hills are alive, its all about the sound of music at an event!
With every good event that’s ever been staged, music has in some way played a part. Music is the lifeblood of any event and used correctly can strongly impact the occasion.
Whether it’s a band or DJ for dancing, the backing track to a high impact dance routine, a powerful opening song or just subtly played in the Back Ground (BGM), music is always present.
Other ways to use the sound of music is by selecting an appropriate track to walk in & out of a space to. This may be relating to a conference theme or used to create a sense of occasion for a gala - such as Robert Miles track “Children”. A walk out at the end of the days plenary session may be ‘Closing Time’ by Semisonic for instance.
Music can also enhance a guest speaker, Emcee or award winner when used as a walk on sting. Simply using a 30sec track as they walk to stage creates so much more than a silent cold walk on & also gives the person respect & confidence.
There are also a lot of license free stings that can be used and are very cost effective in obtaining. No excuse for not having those in your kit as well as the usual DRUM ROLL and of course for that last minute Happy Birthday request! As tacky as it may be, it makes the difference!
Always think about your audience too, it’s no good playing Classical Music or Andre Rieu at a Y gen sales meeting or conference & its no good choosing Punk as your BGM at a black tie gala dinner!
All of the above (excluding booking talent) is so cost effective and requires minimal production, all you need is a CD & player or ipod. You can even patch into the house sound system and operate yourself if you don’t have operators!
Music is present in everything we do and the lasting impression of a great event may well be that uplifting track that your producer has selected for the event!
So there you have it the DG version of The Sound of Music !
We would love to hear your ideas on great soundtracks to use for the above principals so feel free to give us your thoughts...
